2006 Paintings by Dawn Barnett

Dawn’s 2006 paintings are again sparse, focusing on her new medium of carved wood. One can see that the attention to detail in the carvings and the care with which she finished the beautiful woods used to create them was time-consuming and meticulous work.  Her “deaf hieroglyphics” are incorporated into the pieces in different ways than previously, with most accenting the piece rather than covering it, and the ancient and tribal influences that have helped to shape the characters have crystallized into what some might consider to be a new language. These pieces are no longer available, but are on display here so you can get a feel for her journey as an artist and a deaf woman, and to document the progression of her artistic style.
