2004 Paintings by Dawn Barnett

We don’t have as many 2004 paintings as we do for previous years of early work by artist Dawn Barnett. However, in the pieces she produced we see experimentation in the artist’s use of medium that continued to evolve in her later works. She introduced the use of plaster and wax, with textures applied to both background and subject matter that blur the distinction between paint on canvas and carved clay tablets, adding a richness that allowed her to play with subtleties of color in new ways. These pieces are no longer available, but are on display here so you can get a feel for her journey as an artist and a deaf woman, and to document the progression of her artistic style.
